Personal Work / Model Collaborations

Brief

To sharpen my skills in photography and editing, I initiated a series of collaborative shoots with models and everyday people found through social media. In exchange for their time, I offered fully edited portraits tailored to their chosen style—whether for personal use, social media, or professional portfolios. Each shoot was free and built on mutual creative exchange.

Approach

I had no prior experience photographing people when I began. I used this project as a self-guided learning path—teaching myself how to handle a camera, work with natural and artificial lighting, edit with Photoshop and Lightroom, and understand how fashion and setting impact visual storytelling.

Finding strong, diverse locations in Montreal’s ever-changing seasons added an extra layer of complexity. Shooting in both summer heat and winter snow required creative problem-solving, planning, and adaptability—skills I embraced and developed over time.

Challenges

My priority was to make every subject feel comfortable and confident. I guided them through everything—from outfit selection and pose coaching to suggesting ideal shoot locations. I acted as both photographer and director, giving clear instructions and creative input to ensure every image felt intentional and authentic.

Lighting and composition played a key role in my process. I used contrast, shadows, and body movement to capture unique portraits that reflected each subject’s personality while maintaining a visually striking aesthetic.

Through these collaborations, I became fluent in portrait photography—technically, creatively, and interpersonally. Every model I worked with ended up using the images across social and professional platforms, often expressing how seen and confident they felt through the final results. These shoots not only built my portfolio, but also shaped my approach to working with real people and capturing genuine expression.
